BoltReporter Privacy Policy

BoltReporter is an Android app used with Bolt, a field tracking service operated by Lightning Field Systems. This Privacy Policy explains how BoltReporter collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects information when you use the app.

User-Controlled Location Reporting

BoltReporter does not send location reports until you explicitly start reporting in the app. Location reporting is controlled by the Start Reporting and Stop Reporting controls inside BoltReporter.

When you tap Start Reporting and reporting remains enabled, BoltReporter collects and sends precise location data to Bolt to provide live position reporting, map display, field history, placefile output, and optional SpotterNetwork relay.

While reporting is active, BoltReporter keeps a persistent notification visible. This allows reporting to continue during the field activity you started, such as when you switch to a radar app, use another app, or turn the screen off.

When you tap Stop Reporting, BoltReporter stops sending new location reports. You can also stop location access by revoking location permission in Android settings.

Public Location by Design

BoltReporter is designed for live field position reporting. When reporting is enabled and your position is not hidden, your precise GPS location may be visible to other Bolt users, included in generated placefiles, displayed on maps, or relayed to SpotterNetwork if that integration is enabled.

This is a core feature of BoltReporter and Bolt. Do not start reporting if you do not want your field position transmitted to Bolt or made visible through enabled Bolt features.

We do not sell personal information or location data.

Information BoltReporter Collects

Location data: only while reporting is enabled, BoltReporter collects precise location data from your device, including latitude, longitude, speed, heading, altitude when available, accuracy, and timestamps.

Service identifiers: BoltReporter may use service identifiers needed to connect the app to Bolt, such as a Bolt user ID, device ID, authentication token, or reporting endpoint. BoltReporter does not allow users to create a new Bolt account inside the app.

Device and app information: BoltReporter may collect device and app information needed to operate the service, including device identifiers, app version, operating system version, configuration settings, reporting status, and basic diagnostic information.

How We Use Information

We use this information to provide BoltReporter and Bolt features, including live position reporting, map display, field history, placefile generation, optional SpotterNetwork relay, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, security, and user support.

Foreground Reporting Service

BoltReporter uses a user-started foreground reporting service while reporting is active. The persistent notification shows that reporting is running and gives Android a visible reason to keep reporting active during the field activity you started.

BoltReporter does not send new location reports before you start reporting or after you stop reporting in the app.

Hiding and Stopping Reporting

You can hide your position or stop reporting. Hiding is intended to prevent your current position from being publicly displayed through normal Bolt map and placefile features. Stopping reporting prevents BoltReporter from sending new location reports.

Hiding or stopping reporting does not delete historical location records that were already sent to Bolt before hiding or stopping reporting.

Sharing and Visibility

BoltReporter sends location data to Bolt so your position can be displayed and used by the Bolt service while reporting is enabled.

Depending on your Bolt settings, location data may be visible to other Bolt users, included in generated placefiles, displayed on maps, or relayed to SpotterNetwork if that integration is enabled.

Data Storage and Retention

Location reports and related metadata may be retained by Bolt to provide field history, replay, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, security, and service integrity features.

We retain app-related data only as long as needed to provide the service, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or support features that depend on historical records.

Data Deletion

BoltReporter does not allow users to create accounts inside the app.

You may request deletion or anonymization of app-related data associated with your BoltReporter use by contacting [email protected]. If you have a Bolt account, your request should include enough information for us to identify the account or device involved.

Some records may be retained where necessary for security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, service integrity, or because they were already made visible through enabled public or shared service features. Where data cannot reasonably be deleted, we may anonymize it or disconnect it from your account.

Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect information, including secure transmission where supported, access controls, server-side safeguards, and secure credential handling. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.

Children

BoltReporter is not intended for children.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date.
