Bolt is a field tracking service operated by Lightning Field Systems. This Privacy Policy explains how Bolt collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects information when you use the service.
1. Information We Collect
Bolt collects the information needed to provide account access, live field position reporting, map display, field history, placefile output, and related service features.
This may include:
- Account information: your username, email address, and authentication information, such as a password hash.
- Location information: GPS positions reported by your device or reporting app, along with related details such as time, speed, heading, altitude, accuracy, and device state when available.
- Device and session information: device identifiers, device labels, active outing/session records, field history, and related settings.
- Integration settings: settings for optional third-party integrations, such as SpotterNetwork, when you enable them.
- Service information: login/session cookies, server logs, security events, and basic technical information needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot Bolt.
2. How We Use Information
We use this information to operate Bolt, including to:
- Show your reported position on Bolt maps and related views.
- Generate placefiles and other map outputs.
- Maintain field history, replay, and outing/session records.
- Relay your position to third-party services that you explicitly enable.
- Maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve Bolt.
- Communicate with you about your account, support requests, or service-related issues.
3. Public Location by Design
Bolt is a location-sharing service. When you report your position to Bolt and your position is not hidden, your precise GPS location may be visible to other Bolt users, included in generated placefiles, displayed on maps, or relayed to third-party services that you enable.
This is a core feature of Bolt. Do not use Bolt for position reporting if you do not want your field position transmitted to Bolt or made visible through enabled Bolt features.
If you enable a third-party integration, such as SpotterNetwork, Bolt may relay your position to that service according to your settings. Disabling an integration stops Bolt from sending new data to that integration, but it does not remove information already sent to that third party.
We do not sell personal information or location data.
4. Hiding and Stopping Reporting
You can hide your position or stop reporting. Hiding is intended to prevent your current position from being publicly displayed through normal Bolt map and placefile features. Stopping reporting prevents Bolt from receiving new location reports from that reporting source.
Hiding or stopping reporting does not delete historical location records that were already sent to Bolt before hiding or stopping reporting.
5. BoltReporter
BoltReporter is an Android app used to send location reports to Bolt. BoltReporter has a separate privacy policy that describes app-specific data collection, including background location behavior.
If you use BoltReporter, both this Bolt Privacy Policy and the BoltReporter Privacy Policy may apply.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on servers operated for Bolt. We use reasonable technical measures to protect the service, including password hashing, HTTPS where supported, access controls, and server-side safeguards.
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
Account information is retained while your account remains active. Location history and related outing/session records may be retained to provide field history, replay, troubleshooting, map functionality, service integrity, abuse prevention, safety-related records, and related service features.
If your account is closed or deleted, Bolt will remove or disable your account access and delete or disassociate personal account details where reasonably possible. Historical location records may be deleted, hidden, anonymized, disconnected from your account, or retained in limited form where needed for service integrity, abuse prevention, legal obligations, safety-related records, or records already incorporated into shared or public outputs.
8. Your Choices
You may update your account details, stop reporting your position, hide your current position, disable optional third-party integrations, or request that your account be closed or deleted.
You may request deletion or anonymization of account-associated data by contacting [email protected]. Your request should include enough information for us to identify the account or device involved.
9. Cookies
Bolt uses session cookies to keep you logged in and provide normal account functionality.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date.
