Replay & Chase History
Open a finalized session in the map and step through its timeline.
Replay is Bolt's time-based view of a finalized outing. It reuses the map page, but the map state follows the replay timeline instead of live updates.
Accessing replay
- Go to your outing history (from your account page or organization's Outings tab).
- Click on any finalized outing.
- The map loads in replay mode with a timeline scrubber at the bottom.
Replay limits by plan
Replay access depends on your plan. Free accounts are limited to their 5 most recent finalized outings. Pro removes that limit.
Replay controls
The replay bar appears at the bottom of the map when viewing a finalized outing:
- Timeline scrubber
- Drag the slider to jump to a point in the outing.
- Play / Pause
- Animate the timeline forward, or pause to inspect a specific moment.
- Speed selector
- Change playback speed without leaving the page.
- Current time display
- Shows the replay time currently driving the map.
What you see during replay
Replay re-renders everything time-aware:
- Positions and trails follow the recorded track.
- Radar updates against the replay time.
- NWS alerts reload for the replay time.
- Intent history can appear as historical pins and time-based changes.
- Markers appear when they were created.
- Fuel history can be reviewed from the replay-side quick actions.
Use cases for replay
Post-outing debrief
Review what went well and what didn't:
- Did you position correctly relative to the storm's motion?
- Were your escape routes viable when the situation changed?
- How much lead time did you have on warnings vs. your arrival at the intercept point?
Training new storm chasers
Walk through a real outing step by step, explaining decisions as the replay progresses. Much more effective than static slideshows.
Tips
- Use the speed control for long travel segments.
- Scrub directly to the part of the outing you care about.
- If you are checking an intent change, look for the historical intent pins along the route.
Troubleshooting
- Replay shows a lock icon
- The outing is outside your plan's replay limit.
- No position data in replay
- Your device may not have been reporting during that outing. Check device tracking to ensure your tracker was active.
- Radar doesn't update during scrub
- Historical radar imagery loads on demand. Give it a moment after scrubbing—if it still doesn't appear, the radar data for that timestamp may not be available.
